The initial reason why Deusto Alumni has decided to organize this specialized course is that we do believe it is an invaluable opportunity to acquire and be able to use the legal-business terminology required to understand the important topics that it will deal with but on the other hand it will undoubtedly be an important asset for the Curriculum Vitae of the attendants.

General Objectives

To enable attendants to carry out all those professional tasks that require the use of legal and business English in an international context involving the documentation being dealt with and related matters, with the maximum degree of effectiveness and guarantee.

Specific Objectives

  • to acquire the main terminology used in the four areas dealt with
  • to be able to fully understand the documents used in the areas covered
  • to be able to immediately put into practice the specialized terminology learnt.

Contents

  1. Power of attorney ("Poder de representación")
  2. Affidavit (“Declaración jurada por escrito”) and Contract Affidavit (“Declaración jurada por escrito relativa a un contrato”)
  3. Company governing documents (“Documentos por los que se rige una sociedad mercantil”):
    1. Certificate of Incorporation (“Certificado de constitución y alta en el Registro Mercantil”)
    2. Memorandum of Association [UK] or Articles of Incorporation [USA] (“Acta de constitución”)
    3. Bylaws [UK] or Articles of Incorporation [USA] (“Estatutos Sociales”)
  4. Meeting Documents:
    1. Notice of a meeting (“Convocatoria de una reunión”)
    2. Agenda of a meeting (“Orden del día de una reunión”)
    3. Minutes of a meeting (“Acta de una reunión”)

José Castro Calvín

Mr. Castro has a large experience acquired, amongst others, in the post-graduate programs of different universities and entities (Basque Country University, Deusto University, Alicante University, Instituto Superior de Derecho y Empresa of Madrid, ...). Besides, he has collaborated with the “Asociación de Antigüos Alumnos de Derecho” of Deusto University during more than 20 years, with “Deusto Alumni” for 4 years and with the “Escuela de Práctica Jurídica” of the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados del Señorío de Vizcaya during almost 10 years, teaching a wide range of legal and business Engish courses such as “Introduction to Legal English”, “The English used in International Contracts through the Legal Documents”, “Developing your Legal English Writing Skills,”, “The Language Used in Legal and Court Documents”, “The Language of Meetings”, …, and his assessment by the attendants has always been very positive. His expertise in the legal area is widely acknowledged since he also actively collaborates in the training programs of the Colegio de Abogados de Burgos, Notaría Vinader, Velasco, Ruiz and renowned firms such as J & A Garrigues SLP – Bilbao-, Bufete Barrilero y Asociados – Bilbao-, SBAL Impuestos y Legal S.A –Getxo-Vizcaya–, CIALT –San Sebastián–, Grupo Eurotax –Bilbao–, Euskaltax –Bilbao–.


In addition to all the above, he has also rendered his training services to many business companies (Iberdrola –Bilbao–, Siemens –Getxo-Vizcaya–, Ormazábal Velatia –Llodio-Álava–, Moore & Stephens –Bilbao–, Consulmar –Erandio-Vizcaya–).Therefore he has a wide, well-rounded and acknowledged experience in training highly qualified professionals and university students.


Finally, mention should also be made that the trainer of this course is the author of 3 specialized bilingual dictionaries –English-Spanish–: “Diccionario de Impuestos y Aduanas”, “Diccionario de Comercio Internacional: Importación y Exportación” and “Diccionario de Seguros”, all of them published by Editorial Ariel (Grupo Planeta), which together with his in-company experience has obviously contributed to his sound knowledge of the specialized terminology in the legal and business areas, but apart from this he is acknowledged as having proven teaching skills.
